Water damage is a mishappening that can happen in anybody’s home and is unpredictable. Still, if it happens, you must pay attention to it because this is a serious matter that can damage your home, especially the floors that are worst affected when there is water damage. So, various techniques and steps have to be followed for water restoration.

Steps for water damage floor restoration

#1 Concentrate on removing the water from the surface-

when there is water damage at your home, most waters gather on the floor. So the first step should be towards removing the water from the surface using a vacuum cleaner, or you can use a pump also it can be electric or gas. Still, you need to be careful with the electric one since it may cause an electric shock. The only thing is to ensure all excess water is eliminated from the surface.

#2 Start scrubbing the floor-

after the water is removed from the surface, the floor remains wet, the debris and the foreign material is left that needs to be cleaned, if there are no solid contaminants, dust is always there, so the floor needs to be cleaned by scrubbing it. For scrubbing, take a clean cloth, make a solution of clean water and mix some detergent in it. Dip the cloth in this solution and start scrubbing the floor.

#3 Treat the areas where mold has occurred-

molds are small pores that develop on walls and floors as a result of excessive moisture. Pinpoint the areas where there is moisture or those areas which are prone to mold. Clean that area thoroughly with TrisodiumPhosphate( TSP) by mixing it in water. Remember, only a few drops or a small amount of it must be mixed in water. Scrub the affected areas after the mold is gone, or at least the discoloration is gone. The place is to be dried with water.

#4 Dry up the floor-

after all the excess water is eliminated and the floor is scrubbed; now it’s time to dry up the floor. Switch on all the fans and open the house’s doors and windows to allow maximum ventilation to pull the moisture out.

#5 Special care to be taken for wooden flooring-

Wooden flooring gets damaged severely due to excessive water. The level of the wooden flooring rises in a concave or convex shape. This is called cupping. If cupping has occurred due to excessive water, contact the dealer you have purchased the wooden flooring. A mold can also occur under the paint for that TSP solution mixed with bleach or any solution you use to do your laundry. The potential mold under the paint or the flooring must be removed unless it will bring more damage.

#6 Replace the laminate-

Laminated flooring looks like wooden flooring, but it is not only a cover or laminate is fixed on the floor. When there is water damaged, there are chances that the flooring may get swelled up. The only solution left to treat it is to replace the laminate. Laminate flooring is the most vulnerable to excessive water damage, and immediate action should be taken if you counter a situation of water damage at your home in the case of laminate flooring.

Cleaning the floors for water damage restoration may seem tedious, but it will seem to be a simple task once you do it. The only thing is that wooden flooring needs to be cleaned with extra care since the flooring may severely damage water damage.
